Another holiday PCS

We are PCSing (for the non-Army lingo people: Permanent Change of Station...moving) to Ft. Riley.  Don't know anything about Ft. Riley?  Yeah, me either.  Except, that it's in Kansas...and cold...and we are moving in winter.  Sigh.  But, such is life and it could be worse.

I have done some research and apparently the area is great for outdoorsy types.  Yayyy...for someone else.  I am NOT an outdoorsy type.  I am trying to look at the bright side of the picture taking opportunities.  I received a welcome kit from the Geary County Visitor's Bureau and one of the first pages, had a picture of this thing:

I won't type what I said, but it was somewhere along the lines of "what is this?!!".  My animal loving husband said it was a prairie chicken.  Yeah, um, I only like regular chickens when they are cooked and served with rice or something.  I don't want anything to do with this thing.  Then I read that one of the big attractions in the area is prairie chickens and their mating dance/ritual.  Oh fun.

But on the bright side, there is a Joann Fabrics nearby.  There is no way to adequately express how excited I am about this.  Seriously, Wal-Mart is just not doing it for me anymore and we need a break from each other to see other people before it ends horribly and I never set foot in there again.

Kansas State University is nearby and while I am not a big football fan, I think I might enjoy the college town atmosphere again after so many years in Tallahassee.

Oh and there's a Chick-fil-A on the Kansas State campus.  I will SO be there within days of arriving in the area.
